Ganapathy Leads IGPL Invitational by Two Strokes.webp

Port Louis (Mauritius), April 10 – Veer Ganapathy (67-69) delivered a superb performance on the second day to take the lead by two strokes after the second round of the 2026 IGPL Invitational Mauritius at the picturesque Anahita Golf Course in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Sachin Baisoya (67-71), who was leading overnight, made a mistake on the last hole of the second round, giving Ganapathy the advantage and putting him in a strong position to win.

The 18-year-old Bangalore golfer, who shot 67 on the first day, was level par after the front nine at the Anahita Golf Course but made three birdies on the back nine. These included birdies on the 16th and 18th, allowing him to finish with a score of 69 and reach a total of 8 under after 36 holes.

Baisoya (67-71), who was tied for the lead after 17 holes, made a bogey on the Par-5 18th, while Ganapathy made a birdie. This two-stroke difference put Ganapathy in the lead, with Baisoya falling to 6 under. Three other players, Aryan Roopa Anand (71-70), Ridhima Dilawari (69-72), and Milind Soni (69-72), were also at 3 under after two rounds, and they were tied for third place.

None of the top five players have won the IGPL before, but Aman Raj (73-69) and Kapil Kumar (74-68), who finished with a total of 2 under and are in sixth place, did win in the 2025 season.

In the team competition, RVR Delhi took the lead with a two-round total of 7 under, while Phoenix Hyderabad are second, closely following at 1 under, alongside Atri Mumbai.

With challenging conditions at Anahita, only four other players – WGAI pro Amandeep Drall (69-74), Udayan Mane (70-73), rookie Sukhman Singh (71-72), and Shaurya Binu (75-68) – were under par with a total of 1 under. They were tied for eighth place. The course has proven difficult due to windy conditions and demanding greens, with only 12 players having a total score below par.

Among the top stars, Pukhraj Gill (72-72), SSP Chawrasia (73-71), and Gaurav Ghei (74-70) were tied for 12th place; Shiv Kapur (70-73) was tied for 20th; Karandeep Kochhar (73-73) was tied for 22nd, and Gaganjeet Bhullar (73-74) was tied for 29th.

The top local player was 27-year-old Pierre Pellegrin, who also plays on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa. Pellegrin, after a first round of 8 over (80), rebounded with a score of 64, giving him a total of 2 under and placing him 12th. He improved his position by 43 strokes compared to his first round.

With only one round remaining in the second event of the 2026 calendar, Ganapathy is just 18 holes away from a potential victory. Last season, Veer, the son of former Indian Tour professional Rahul Ganapathy (who is his coach), had been a runner-up twice. Now, he has a three-stroke lead.

Ganapathy said, “I have been playing well, and that worked for me today, especially on the back nine. I have been in this position before, and I know that the more I put myself in this situation, the better my chances will be,” said Veer, who was adjudged as the “Young Turk” of the 2025 IGPL season.

Sachin Baisoya, who is known for his consistency, is closely following Ganapathy. Baisoya's bogey on the last hole was offset by Ganapathy's birdie on the same hole. Baisoya had multiple Top 3 finishes last season and was fourth in the 2025 IGPL Rankings. The former National Games gold medallist is looking for his first win on the IGPL Tour. He knows that a two-stroke lead can disappear quickly, and he will need a strong and consistent start to have a chance to win the IGPL Trophy.

Aryan Roopa Anand initially looked like he could challenge Ganapathy, but a triple bogey on the tricky Par-5 18th cost him 5 strokes, bringing him down to 2 under. He is currently third with a total of 3 under.

Milind Soni is aiming for his first Top 10 finish in the IGPL, and Ridhima Dilawari is the top woman in the field, while Amandeep Drall is tied for eighth. With the challenging course and weather conditions, the final day could be very competitive, and mistakes could prove costly.
