
Korba (Chhattisgarh), February 22 Coal India's Gevra mine will become the world's top coal-producing mine next year by achieving an output of 63 million tonnes, surpassing US mines, a top official said on Sunday.
The Gevra mine, operated by South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India, is India's largest open-cast coal mine.
The Gevra mine, which has been operational since 1981, will produce 56 million tonnes this year. The mine has already received environmental clearance to expand its capacity to 70 million tonnes per annum.
