Albinush R. Marak resigned as the Chief Executive Member of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council on Monday, just hours before a special session was to be held to discuss a motion of no-confidence against him. The motion was supported by 21 Members of the District Council (MDCs), who had submitted a petition to Governor C. H. Vijayashankar, claiming that Marak had lost the support of the majority. Following his resignation, Dhormonath Ch. Sangma, an MDC from Naguapara, was elected as the new CEM. The special session at the District Council Hall will now focus on forming a new Executive Committee.
