New Delhi, April 8 – Glenn Phillips, a versatile all-rounder for the Gujarat Titans, believes that gaining momentum from their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match against the Delhi Capitals will be crucial for turning the team's fortunes around in the ongoing season.
GT, the IPL 2022 champions, have been winless so far, and a win in New Delhi will help them make their debut on the points table. “For me, it's the same as it is for everyone else. We were in a very good position, especially in the last game (against Rajasthan Royals).
“Obviously, we didn't finish things well, so for us, it's all about sticking to our processes, staying focused, and performing well. Today is a new day, and it's a long tournament – if we can get some momentum going, then everything will fall into place,” said Phillips in a pre-game chat with the broadcasters.
The New Zealand cricketer further emphasized focusing only on controllable aspects and drawing motivation from the small wins he achieves while playing. “For me, it's about staying focused on the things I can control. Cricket is a funny game.
“I just tend to focus on things that make me happy, like getting into the team, sticking to my processes as much as possible, and taking the small wins wherever they are. Hopefully, that will keep me motivated for the next day,” he said.
Phillips also praised GT's newly appointed batting coach, Matthew Hayden, for his process-driven approach in guiding the batters. “He has been fantastic. He was simply a process-driven player in his time.
“I just want to learn from his experience and take what he did back in his day. Hopefully, this will help me improve my overall game. He is a highly experienced person, and we also have a lot of fun off the field,” he concluded.
The Delhi Capitals will face the 2022-winner Gujarat Titans in Match 14 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
