Panaji, March 14 Goa has transformed its kidney care services into a comprehensive nephrology ecosystem, providing free dialysis and post-transplant medicines across the state, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has said.

The state government is working to ensure accessible and affordable healthcare while strengthening specialized treatment facilities across Goa, the minister said in a post on X to mark World Kidney Day on Friday.

He said kidney care services have grown significantly at the Goa Medical College Hospital (GMCH), which now offers round-the-clock dialysis, specialized outpatient services, and both living and deceased donor kidney transplant programs.

Rane pointed out that dialysis treatment, including Erythropoietin injections required for patients, as well as essential immunosuppressive medicines for transplant recipients, are being provided free of cost.

"These initiatives reflect our commitment to ensuring that financial barriers never stand between patients and life-saving care," he said.

Dialysis facilities have been expanded across the state and are also available at peripheral health centers, improving access to advanced treatment even in remote areas, the minister said.

Apart from treatment, awareness and education remain a key focus, with the GMCH and the Directorate of Health Services conducting regular programs on kidney disease prevention, dialysis, and transplantation for medical professionals as well as the general public, he said.
