Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma stated that a proposal to create the Shillong agglomerate from the East Khasi Hills district would be thoroughly examined and scrutinized to arrive at an informed decision for improved governance and citizen-centric administration. The Chief Minister was responding to a brief discussion on the issue raised by United Democratic Party MLA, Paul Lyngdoh, in the Assembly yesterday.
Mr. Sangma said that the proposal requires careful consideration, while acknowledging that Shillong, as the State capital, has experienced rapid urban expansion, placing increasing pressure on civic administration, infrastructure, law enforcement, and essential public services. Such a proposal must be reviewed by a high-level committee headed by the Chief Secretary before a final decision is made.
