March 30, New Delhi – The Indian government has issued a gazette notification allowing the distribution of Superior Kerosene Oil under the Public Distribution System to 21 states and Union Territories, citing the geopolitical situation affecting energy supplies worldwide.
To ensure uninterrupted access to fuel for cooking and lighting, the government has eased key regulations, allowing select petrol pumps to store and distribute kerosene, with a limit of up to 5,000 litres per outlet.
In a significant relaxation, dealers and transporters have also been exempted from certain licensing requirements to expedite last-mile delivery.
This emergency arrangement will remain in effect for 60 days, covering 21 states and Union Territories.
