The government has approved revisions to the commission rates paid to agricultural cooperatives and societies involved in procuring wheat and paddy on behalf of the government. These revised rates will be effective starting from the 2026-27 Rabi Marketing Season. The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution announced that the commission paid to agricultural cooperatives for wheat in Punjab and Haryana will increase from 46.00 rupees per quintal to 50.75 rupees per quintal, while for wheat in Rajasthan, it will increase from 41.40 rupees per quintal to 45.67 rupees per quintal. The commission for paddy will also increase from 45.88 rupees per quintal to 50.61 rupees per quintal.
Similarly, the commission for procuring wheat will increase from 27.00 rupees per quintal to 29.79 rupees per quintal, while for paddy, it will increase from 32.00 rupees per quintal to 35.30 rupees per quintal. These revisions aim to ensure the continued efficiency of the procurement system and to support the agencies involved in facilitating procurement operations on behalf of the government.
The Ministry stated that, according to existing guidelines governing procurement operations, commissions are paid to cooperatives, agricultural societies, sub-agents, and agricultural cooperatives involved in procuring wheat and paddy on behalf of the government, as well as for providing intermediary and aggregation services in the procurement process. They added that a sub-committee was formed with representatives from the Food Corporation of India (FCI), state governments, and the Department of Food and Public Distribution, based on requests received from various state governments for revising the commission rates. The committee reviewed the prevailing rates and recommended revisions to the commission structure.
