Government Reintroduces Fuel Quotas in Sri Lanka.webp

March 16, Colombo – Sri Lanka’s state-owned Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has assured the public that sufficient fuel stocks are available to meet demand until the end of next month.

Speaking to the media, Chairman of CPC, D. J. Rajakaruna stated that previously ordered fuel shipments continue to arrive on schedule, ensuring steady supplies despite heightened public concern related to the Middle East conflict.

He noted that daily fuel consumption has increased by approximately 21 percent compared to normal levels, largely due to panic buying, hoarding, and illegal trading activities. Panic buying has been observed in various parts of the island, with long queues seen at petrol stations.

Earlier on Sunday, the government decided to reintroduce the QR code-based fuel quota system to stabilize demand and discourage unnecessary usage.
