New Delhi, March 24 Rajasthan recorded the highest quantity of drug seizures among border states in 2025, followed by Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, adding that 292 unmanned aerial vehicles were recovered along the Indo-Pakistan border in 2025.
Responding to a query by MP Shyamkumar Daulat Barve, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that nearly 2.25 lakh kg of narcotics were seized in Rajasthan in 2025, the highest in the country.
Around 1.16 lakh kg of narcotics were seized in Punjab, while 80,331 kg were recovered from Uttar Pradesh.
The data also showed consistently high volume of drug recoveries in these states over the past three years, underlining their vulnerability to cross-border trafficking.
Other states reporting significant seizures in 2025 include West Bengal (75,948 kg), Bihar (49,964 kg) and Tripura (46,346 kg).
Addressing concerns over narco-terrorism, the minister said "foreign-based elements are involved in facilitating narco terrorism by pushing narcotics across the border to generate funds for financing terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab."
On measures to curb smuggling via drones, Rai said 292 drones or unmanned aerial vehicles were seized or recovered along the Indo-Pakistan border in 2025.
Regarding action against international drug syndicates, the government said 66 fugitives wanted in drug-related cases have been identified.
"A total of 24 Red Notices and 25 Blue Notices were published in respect of these fugitives," the minister said, adding that five fugitives were deported from the UAE, Malaysia and Sri Lanka in 2025.
On drug seizures at major ports, the government said multiple consignments were intercepted in recent years. These include 1 kg of cocaine seized from a container freight station in Kachchh, Gujarat in August 2023, and large quantities of tramadol (highly-restricted painkiller) tablets recovered from Mundra in 2024 -- 68.78 lakh and 25.41 lakh tablets in July and September, respectively.
Additionally, 1,000 tramadol injections were seized at Kolkata port in October 2024.
The consignments originated from countries such as Ecuador and the Philippines, while some were domestically sourced, the minister added.
