March 11, New Delhi – The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a notice to the messaging platform Telegram under the Information Technology Act, 2000, directing it to remove pirated content from its platform.

This action comes after complaints from several OTT platforms, including JioCinema and Amazon Prime Video, alleging widespread piracy of copyrighted films and web series being shared through Telegram channels.

Following an examination of these complaints, the government has identified over 3,100 Telegram channels that were allegedly distributing pirated films and OTT content.

The ministry has now asked Telegram to take necessary action to remove such content and curb online piracy on its platform.
