The Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua have installed GPS-enabled tracking anklets on three accused persons who were granted interim bail by the court, in an effort to ensure continuous monitoring of their movements.
This action was taken under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Mohita Sharma, in compliance with the directions of the Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kathua, in connection with FIR No. 18/2024 registered at Police Station Malhar under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Officials said the GPS tracker anklet is a wearable electronic device secured around the ankle, enabling real-time location tracking and ensuring strict adherence to bail conditions. The court had directed the installation of these devices to monitor the activities and movements of the accused persons during the bail period.
The accused on whom the devices have been installed include Mool Raj of Malhar, Layiket Ali of Dhanu Parole in Billawar, and Maqbool of Soffain Ambnal in Kathua district.
The police said this initiative marks a significant step towards leveraging technology for effective law enforcement and ensuring compliance with judicial orders, while maintaining surveillance over accused released on interim bail.
