Nashik, February 25 The sarpanch of a village in Nashik district and her husband have been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in exchange for not approving a motion of no-confidence against the deputy sarpanch, officials said on Wednesday.

The accused, Manda Bendkule and Vitthal Bendkule, had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from themselves and other members of the Gram Panchayat. They later agreed to accept Rs 25,000 after negotiations, according to officials.

On Tuesday, a team from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended Manda while she was allegedly accepting Rs 14,000, and her husband, who was being paid Rs 1,000.

Some members of the Rasegaon Gram Panchayat had submitted a motion of no-confidence against the Upasarpandh to the Tehsildar.

A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is ongoing.
