
Kolkata, April 6 The value of Udayan Guha's movable assets, the TMC candidate for the Dinhata constituency in north Bengal's Cooch Behar district, has increased by Rs 1.86 crore over the past five years, according to his 2026 election affidavit.
Guha's annual income in the financial year 2024-25 stood at Rs 30.35 lakh, up from Rs 16.21 lakh as shown in the 2021 affidavit.
The minister declared in this year's affidavit that he and his wife have movable assets worth Rs 4.05 crore and Rs 3.56 crore, respectively.
In the 2021 by-election for the same constituency, which he won, Guha declared movable assets worth Rs 2.19 crore.
His spouse had total movable assets worth Rs 2.76 crore, as per the affidavit filed by Guha for the October 2021 by-election.
According to his declaration, the TMC leader's wife's income in 2024-25 was higher than his, totaling Rs 35.57 lakh.
Guha and his spouse's incomes in 2023-24 stood at Rs 17.37 lakh and Rs 9.21 lakh, respectively.
In the 2021 by-election affidavit, Guha had declared an annual earning of Rs 16.21 lakh, and that of his spouse was Rs 15.45 lakh in the financial year 2019-20.
The candidate has two murder cases against him from the days of his being a Forward Bloc leader, one in 2008 and the other in 2013.
The 2008 case was registered in the Dinhata police station, while the 2013 criminal case was filed in the Sahebganj police station, both in Cooch Behar district.
Both matters are pending before the Dinhata additional chief judicial magistrate's court in Dinhata, and charges have not been framed in these cases yet, according to the affidavit.
The 71-year-old Guha, a resident of Dinhata, stated in the affidavit that he has Rs 80,230 in cash.
Among the movable assets of Guha and his spouse are bank fixed deposits and equity funds.
According to the affidavit, the TMC candidate owns an SUV, while he had an MUV in 2021.
Among the immovable assets, the TMC candidate has a lease-acquired property at Salt Lake in the outskirts of Kolkata, and an inherited house in Dinhata.
He declared a total current market value of the two properties to be Rs 35.28 lakh.
The two properties were declared to have a total market value of Rs 36.28 lakh in 2021.
A Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree holder from North Bengal University, Guha stated 'business' as his profession, while his spouse is a 'housewife', whose earnings come from 'bank and others' interest', as per the affidavit.
Guha was a Forward Bloc MLA in 2011 and a TMC legislator in 2016 and 2021, representing Dinhata.
He lost to BJP's Nishith Pramanik in the 2021 assembly polls, but after the saffron party legislator gave up the MLA-ship in favour of his Lok Sabha membership, Guha won the resulting byelection that same year.
His father Kamal Guha, a well-known Forward Bloc leader in north Bengal, was a six-time MLA from Dinhata from 1977 to 2006.
