Ahmedabad, April 5 The opposition Congress party released its first list of 243 candidates on Sunday, covering seven out of the 15 municipal corporations, including Ahmedabad and Surat, which will go to polls on April 26.

The BJP and the AAP have yet to announce their nominees.

The Congress list covers seven key civic bodies, namely Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar, and Morbi.

However, the opposition party has not disclosed candidates for all the seats up for grabs in the upcoming elections, indicating that more lists are likely to be released in the coming days.

According to the poll schedule, 34 district panchayats, 260 taluka panchayats, 84 municipalities, and 15 municipal corporations will go to polls on April 26. The votes will be counted on April 28.

According to the State Election Commission, more than 4.18 crore voters will be eligible to exercise their franchise across 9,992 seats in Gujarat.

The polls are being conducted under revised norms for Other Backward Class (OBC) reservations, which require extensive delimitation and restructuring of wards in several districts.

The notification for the elections will be issued on April 6. The last date for filing nominations is April 11. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be undertaken on April 13, and candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until April 15.
