Ahmedabad, May 10
In response to the ongoing military conflict between India and Pakistan, the Gujarat government has imposed a complete suspension on fishing activities in the Arabian Sea, a senior official from the Fisheries Department confirmed on Saturday. The directive affects thousands of fisherfolk along Gujarat’s extensive coastline, which includes a sensitive maritime border with Pakistan. As a precautionary measure, the government has stopped issuing tokens required for boats to venture out into the sea.
All Boats Ordered to Return to Nearest Ports
Authorities have instructed all boat owners to recall vessels currently at sea and ensure they dock at the nearest available port. "All fishing boats must return immediately. Any violation of this directive will result in legal action," the official statement warned. This emergency measure follows increased security concerns in the region amid escalating tensions along both the land and maritime borders between the two countries.
Strict Enforcement Until Further Notice
The suspension will remain in place until further notice. The Fisheries Department reiterated that the safety of fisherfolk is a priority and that any attempt to bypass the ban will be treated as a serious legal offense.Gujarat’s coast has often been a high-security zone due to its proximity to Pakistan, and authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance in light of the current geopolitical developments.
Authorities have appealed for cooperation from the fishing community to ensure their safety and avoid potential cross-border incidents during this volatile period.
