Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated today that the nation has made a commitment to eliminate Naxalism from the country by the end of next month. Addressing the CRPF personnel during the 87th Raising Day parade in Guwahati, Mr. Shah said that the CRPF has provided unparalleled service to the nation. He added that CRPF personnel and the Cobra Battalions are undertaking unprecedented work to make the country Naxal-free.
The Minister stated that the CRPF played a crucial role in restoring peace in the northeastern region, Jammu and Kashmir, and in areas affected by Maoist activity. He said that the country cannot imagine its internal security without the CRPF. Reaffirming the role played by the CRPF in restoring peace, the Home Minister said that several battalions of this force have been deployed in the violence-hit state of Manipur to restore peace. He paid tribute to those CRPF personnel who lost their lives while protecting the nation. He stated that 2,270 brave personnel have sacrificed their lives in service to the country. He also said that 700 personnel of this force died in the northeastern region alone.
On this occasion, Union Home Minister reviewed the ceremonial parade and took the salute. He also awarded medals of bravery to CRPF personnel, recognizing their exceptional courage. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was also present on the occasion.
Later, in the afternoon, the Union Minister will lay the foundation stone for a new campus of the 10th Assam Police Battalion at Kachutoli, a nearby area of Guwahati. The battalion is currently operating from Guwahati and will move to the newly developed premises once construction is completed.
