
Hyderabad, March 13 Former DGP of undivided Andhra Pradesh, H J Dora, died here on Friday due to complications related to kidney disease. He was 82 years old.
Dora had been suffering from chronic kidney disease since 2020, and the disease progressed to end-stage renal disease in 2024.
He was recently admitted to the state-run Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and was later discharged.
He was found unconscious at his home on Friday, and was subsequently taken to the hospital. Despite all possible efforts, he could not be revived, and was declared dead in the evening, NIMS said.
Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, Union Ministers G Kishan Reddy, and BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, along with several other leaders and Telangana DGP B Shivadhar Reddy, condoled the death of Dora.
Revanth Reddy recalled Dora's invaluable services as the Chief of Intelligence and DGP during undivided AP, stating that the deceased official introduced reforms in the police force, including "friendly policing."
Kishan Reddy said Dora's honesty and administrative capabilities would be remembered forever. Dora had also served as Director of CISF, he added.
Born in the Srikakulam district of Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Dora, who belonged to the 1965 batch of IPS, earned special recognition as a police officer, Shivadhar Reddy said.
Shivadhar Reddy recalled that Dora introduced revolutionary changes in the police department and for the welfare of police personnel, and that the deceased officer also played a significant role in addressing the Naxal problem.
