
Gopeshwar (Uttarakhand), March 25 A 26-year-old woman was critically injured in a bear attack on Wednesday in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, officials said.
The incident occurred in Harmoni village early Wednesday when the victim, Goldie Devi, had ventured into a nearby forest to gather fodder when a bear suddenly attacked her. The woman sustained severe injuries in the attack, they said.
Later, villagers and the woman's relatives rushed her to the government hospital in Tharali for treatment. After receiving primary medical aid there, she was referred to another healthcare facility.
Officials said that the woman's condition is reported to be critical.
They further explained that Devi, from Boonga village of the district, was visiting her maternal home when the incident took place.
Chamoli Chief Medical Officer Dr Abhishek Gupta stated that given the severity of the woman's condition, she has been airlifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Rishikesh for advanced medical treatment.
Alarmed by the incident, villagers have demanded that the Forest Department increase patrols in the area and implement robust safety measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
