Shimla, April 2 Police arrested a drug peddler from Haryana here on Thursday and seized 288 grams of adulterated heroin from his possession, officials said.

Police said this is the largest seizure in the district this year.

The accused, Shamshad Ahmed (42), a resident of Ambala, Haryana, has been identified.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shimla Gaurav Singh said a special police team was patrolling near the Interstate Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Tutikandi, Shimla, when they received information about a suspicious person carrying heroin (locally called "chitta") on the first floor of the ISBT.

The police team intercepted the accused and seized the contraband.

He said a case has been registered against the accused under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the investigation is underway.

He said the accused has been remanded in police custody for six days by a local court.
