Gurugram, March 27 A tattoo of his divorced wife's name on his chest helped the Haryana Police identify the body of a man found on MG Road here last week, police said on Friday.

The deceased was a resident of Darjeeling and worked in the catering industry in Gurugram, they said, adding that his cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem.

According to the police, on March 22, police had recovered an unidentified dead body from the roadside near the Power House Gate on MG Road.

During the investigation, the police discovered the name "Nisha" tattooed in English on the body's chest, which proved to be an important clue in his identification, the investigating officer ASI Om Prakash said.

Later, the police identified the deceased as Umesh Khati, a resident of Darjeeling, a senior police officer said, adding that the word "Nisha" tattooed on his chest was his ex-wife's name.

Khati lived alone in Gurugram as his wife had left him several years ago after their divorce, he said.

Khati occasionally visited Darjeeling, but after the divorce, he spent most of his time in Gurugram, he said.

"His body was found lying on his stomach, and it is likely that he fell and died from suffocation. No criminal evidence has yet been established, and it is not possible to provide a clear cause of death," the investigating officer said.

The cause of death will only be known after the post-mortem, which will be carried out only after his family arrives, the officer said.
