
Chandigarh, March 29 Rain affected parts of Punjab and Haryana on Sunday, leading to a drop in daytime temperatures at many locations, the local weather office reported.
Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, received light rain and recorded a maximum temperature of 27.3 degrees Celsius, which was more than four notches below the normal level, the weather office said.
Ambala, Panchkula, and Yamunanagar in Haryana, as well as Rupnagar, Mohali, Patiala, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, and Ludhiana in Punjab, were among the areas that received rain on Sunday.
However, the rain has caused concern among farmers, who fear that if the showers are accompanied by strong winds, they could damage the standing wheat crop.
Amritsar in Punjab recorded a high of 28.1 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees below normal, while Ludhiana recorded a maximum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
Hisar in Haryana recorded a high of 35 degrees Celsius, which was two notches below normal, while Ambala recorded a maximum of 30.4 degrees Celsius.
Gurugram in Haryana recorded a high of 34.5 degrees Celsius, the weather office said.
