
A health and awareness camp for senior citizens was organized at the Ahata Waqar Day Care Recreational Centre in Srinagar to promote the well-being and awareness of elderly people regarding welfare schemes.
March 11, Srinagar: A health, recreational, and awareness camp for senior citizens was organized at the Ahata Waqar Day Care Recreational Centre in Chanapora with the aim of promoting the well-being, healthcare, and social engagement of the elderly.
The program was organized in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Srinagar, and the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, focusing on improving access to medical services, social support, and awareness of welfare schemes available for senior citizens.
The event began with Tilawat-e-Quran by Khazer Mohd Sahib, followed by Naat Khani by Qazi Rashid Sahib. Several speakers highlighted the need to ensure the dignity, care, and active participation of senior citizens in society.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Abdul Ganie Parray, Chairman, Senior Citizen Council; Shabir Mujahid, former Director, Doordarshan Kashmir; Khazer Mohd Sahib, Secretary, Senior Citizen Council; and Qazi Rashid Sahib. The speakers emphasized the role of community institutions in safeguarding the rights and welfare of the elderly.
A health camp was also conducted during the program, where Dr Saqiba, a Geriatric Specialist, and Dr Laila, a Geriatric Physiotherapist, provided medical consultations, health screenings, and physiotherapy guidance to senior citizens.
Awareness sessions on various social welfare schemes were held to inform the elderly about government support programs. Recreational facilities, including massage chairs, indoor games, and library services, were also made available to promote mental and physical well-being.
Speaking on the occasion, the in-charge of the Ahata Waqar Day Care Centre reiterated the institution's commitment to providing healthcare assistance, legal awareness, welfare scheme information, and recreational activities to enhance the quality of life of senior citizens.
The organizers expressed their gratitude to the Department of Social Welfare, Health Services Kashmir, doctors, speakers, and participants for their support in making the program a success. The initiative was widely appreciated by the senior citizens who actively participated in the activities.
