The Bharatiya Janata Party has strongly criticized the Trinamool Congress's election manifesto. At a press conference in Kolkata today, state BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya alleged that while the Chief Minister promises healthcare at people's doorsteps, district hospitals lack essential medicines and have become referral centers for patients seeking treatment in Kolkata hospitals. Bhattacharya claimed that substandard drugs are being sold at government-run fair-price shops, and even doctors advise against their use. He added that despite talk of modernizing education, nearly eight thousand schools have closed down; many of the remaining schools are either short of students or teachers. Mocking the "Yuva Sathi" scheme, he said that the government offers unemployed youth a meager allowance while denying its own employees a cost-of-living adjustment. Bhattacharya dismissed the Chief Minister's ten announced schemes as mere promises, insisting that if the BJP comes to power, those promises will be fulfilled within days.
