
Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that Assam has become a major healthcare hub for the Northeastern region over the last 10 years of the BJP-led government, reducing the need for residents to travel outside the region for treatment. Mr. Shah was addressing a large gathering in Guwahati on the occasion of the laying of foundation stones and inauguration of various development projects related to the healthcare sector. The Home Minister said that Assam is the first state in India to introduce proton therapy machines within the public healthcare system and has established world-class cancer treatment facilities.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated and laid foundation stones of various development projects worth over ₹2090 crore in Guwahati today. The Home Minister also inaugurated the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati, along with the Cancer Care Centres of Golaghat and Tinsukia. Mr. Shah criticized the Congress party for its negligence of the state's healthcare sector during its 15-year rule. He also criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and the Congress party for their protests at the India AI Summit in Delhi.
Mr. Shah also virtually laid foundation stones for the Super Specialty Hospital at Diphu Medical College and Hospital, the Super Specialty Hospital at Jorhat Medical College and Hospital, the Super Specialty Hospital at Barpeta Medical College and Hospital, the Abhayapuri District Hospital, and the Swastha Bhawan in Guwahati. The Home Minister will also address the BJP's youth wing in Guwahati.
