Kolkata, May 10 – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory forecasting contrasting conditions across West Bengal starting Saturday. While parts of South Bengal brace for scorching heat, the northern districts are expected to witness heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
Heatwave to Grip Southern West Bengal
Several districts in South Bengal, including West Bardhaman, Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, and West Midnapore, are likely to experience heatwave conditions, the IMD said. Daytime temperatures are expected to soar beyond 40 degrees Celsius, exceeding the normal by up to five degrees.Other districts in the region will not be spared from discomfort either, as hot and humid weather is forecast to persist across the remaining parts of South Bengal until May 14.
North Bengal to Receive Heavy Showers
In contrast, the IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in the North Bengal districts of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Coochbehar. Additionally, thunderstorms are likely to occur in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong regions.This weather divergence highlights a significant climatic variation between the northern and southern parts of the state during the current spell.
Residents across the affected regions are advised to stay updated with local weather alerts and take necessary precautions amid extreme temperatures or sudden weather changes.
