Heavy Rains Cause Tree Falls, Flower Seller Dies.webp

Pune, April 2 A 60-year-old woman was killed on Thursday in the Sinhagad Road area after a tree fell on her as the city was hit by unseasonal rains, a Fire Brigade official said.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjana Navnath Giri, a resident of Anandnagar in the Sinhagad Road area, who sold flowers and garlands from a makeshift stall under an old peepal tree.

"Due to the strong winds and rain, the tree collapsed this afternoon. She was injured and admitted to the hospital, but died during treatment," the official said.

There were several incidents of trees falling or being uprooted in the city, and some areas also reported hailstorms.

The areas of Dhayari, Sinhagad Road, Kharadi, Balajinagar, Hadapsar, Lohegaon, Bibwewadi, Sadashiv Peth, and Kothrud experienced heavy rainfall.

Earlier, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an orange alert for the city.
