
Etawah (UP), April 6 A truck driver and his helper were killed after a speeding dump truck crashed into their stationary vehicle on the Etawah-Agra National Highway on Monday, police said.
The incident occurred near Vicharpura village, under the Civil Lines police station, when the victims had parked their truck on the roadside to fix a mechanical fault.
Station House Officer K K Mishra said the dump truck hit the truck from behind with considerable force, causing it to move forward. The impact threw the driver and the helper onto the road, after which the dump truck ran over them, killing them instantly.
The deceased were identified as Rohit (25) and his cousin Nitin Kumar (19), both residents of Chandrapura village in Auraiya district.
Police reached the scene after receiving information and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination after completing the necessary legal procedures.
The dump truck has been seized and brought to the police station, while its driver has fled the scene. Efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the accused, police added.
