Hamirpur (HP), April 1 Two constables were suspended for negligence in their duties after they allegedly kept the heroin they had seized from a private hotel last week and demanded money from the accused, officials said on Wednesday.
The constables, who were stationed at the Bhoranj police station here, have been sent to the police lines pending further orders.
Officials said the suspended constables had seized "chitta," or adulterated heroin, from two individuals at a private hotel last week. However, they did not register a case against the accused and instead kept the contraband in their possession.
They were also alleged to have demanded money from the two accused.
When Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Balbir Singh came to know about the incident, he suspended the constables, officials said.
Rajesh Sharma, Additional Superintendent of Police, who is investigating the matter, said that as soon as the matter was brought to his attention, he initiated an inquiry and took disciplinary action against the two constables after confirming their negligence in performing their duty.
