
Rajouri, February 23: A one-day seminar on the potential of medicinal and aromatic plants for conservation, cultivation, and entrepreneurship in the Himalayan region was held at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University.
The event was organized by the Centre for Biodiversity Studies in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Medicinal Plants Board, the Directorate of AYUSH, and the District Administration of Rajouri. Farmers, researchers, students, and officials participated, highlighting the untapped potential of the Pir Panjal region.
Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri and Registrar of BGSBU, Abhishek Sharma, called for stronger links between academia and industry, and for promoting scientific cultivation and value addition to boost entrepreneurship and improve the lives of local farmers. Experts from CSIR-Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine and other institutions discussed conservation strategies, high-value crops such as lemongrass, asparagus, ginger, and turmeric, and emphasized the importance of market linkages and sustainable farming practices.
The seminar concluded with a renewed commitment to promote green entrepreneurship and sustainable development in the Himalayan region.
