Holi 2024: Record Sales Expected, ‘Vocal for Local’ Fuels Growth.webp

New Delhi, February 22 – The Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Praveen Khandelwal, stated on Sunday that the upcoming Holi festival is expected to generate business exceeding ₹80,000 crore across India this year, representing a growth of nearly 25% compared to the estimated ₹60,000 crore from last year.

He noted that, due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's encouragement of "Vocal for Local," Indian-made products are dominating the market during this Holi.

Herbal colors, natural dyes, pichkaris (water guns), balloons, puja materials, sandalwood, apparel, and various festive items manufactured in India are experiencing strong demand, while Chinese goods have significantly declined in the market since 2021.

"In addition to Holi-specific items, the market is witnessing high demand for sweets, dry fruits, gift items, flowers, fruits, clothing, furnishing fabrics, groceries, and FMCG products. White T-shirts, kurta-pyjamas, and salwar suits for playing Holi, along with "Happy Holi" printed T-shirts, are also experiencing brisk sales."

According to CAIT estimates, festive trade in Delhi alone is expected to cross ₹15,000 crore. Markets across the city are experiencing high footfall as shops display colorful gulal (colored powder), innovative pichkaris, gujiya garlands, and festive gift packs.

"Sweet shops are also experiencing a major surge in demand, particularly for traditional Holi delicacies like gujiya," CAIT said.

Khandelwal stated that Holi celebrations are being organized on a large scale across the country.

In Delhi alone, more than 3,000 Holi Milan programs (Holi celebrations) are being organized by trade bodies, social, cultural, and religious organizations.

Banquet halls, farmhouses, hotels, restaurants, and public parks are almost fully booked for Holi celebrations.

He also informed that in Delhi, 'Holika Dahan' (burning of a symbolic effigy) will be observed on March 3, and the festival of colors will be celebrated on March 4.

Consumers are increasingly preferring herbal and natural colors, while children are particularly attracted to pichkaris featuring characters like 'Spiderman' and 'Chhota Bheem'.

Khandelwal emphasized that festivals in India significantly boost economic activity and generate large-scale business opportunities.

"This Holi is expected to bring substantial benefits to traders, retailers, small businesses, cottage industries, and the MSME sector across the country while strengthening the spirit of swadeshi trade (promoting domestic products)."
