Chennai, February 23 – Actress, singer, and musician Shruti Haasan, who has worked and lived across various industries and languages, says that she has come to view the concept of "home" in a very different way.
For her, "home" is not just a physical location. It's a deeply personal space that she carries within herself.
Reflecting on what "belonging" means to her, Shruti shares, "For me, 'home' is not about geography at all. When I return to Chennai, I feel a sense of comfort and a love that is truly boundless. In Mumbai, I experience a different kind of love. And in Hyderabad, because I work in these industries, I feel a different kind of connection."
Having built a career that spans multiple film industries, she says that each city has offered her its own unique warmth. However, over time, she has discovered something even more profound.
"What I've realized is that I can be comfortable anywhere, as long as I have a sense of belonging. That's what brings me joy – getting to know people, places, and their cultures, and finding what I love about them and making it my own. 'Home' is wherever I am," she says.
"It's a deeply personal feeling, and I can be in what's considered the most comfortable place, including my own home, and still feel completely out of place. So, my sense of self is what truly matters to me. I am my home, and that has given me a great sense of security and confidence in navigating life," she adds.
Shruti continues, "For me, 'home' has never been about a specific location. It's never been about a person, except perhaps my father, who truly embodies the feeling of 'home' for me. Nothing has ever felt more like 'home' than being myself. This might sound a bit self-centered, but it has worked out really well for me."
In a life that constantly takes her across cities, languages, and cultures, Shruti Haasan's idea of "home" feels deeply personal and quietly powerful, reminding us that true belonging is not about a specific address, but about feeling at ease within ourselves.
