Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute today to all the brave freedom fighters who participated in the historic Dandi March. In a social media post, Mr. Radhakrishnan stated that the Dandi Satyagraha, launched on this day in 1930 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, marked a defining moment in India's freedom movement. The vice president noted that the movement inspired a nationwide spirit of self-reliance through the ideals of Satya and Ahimsa.
He added that as the country works towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat and strives towards the vision of Viksit Bharat, the spirit of self-reliance inspired by the Dandi March continues to guide the nation's journey. Sharing a Sanskrit shloka, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasised the triumph of truth. Mr. Modi said that truth always prevails and falsehood is ultimately destroyed. The Prime Minister added that one should follow the path on which the Sages attained bliss and realised the supreme truth. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that the historic journey from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi was not merely a movement against the salt law but a great Satyagraha that awakened the consciousness of self-rule, self-respect, and self-reliance in the soul of India.
Mr. Birla said that the courageous foot march infused new energy into the aspirations for freedom across the entire country and united crores of Indians against the unjust colonial rule. The speaker further said this inspiring journey will forever remain an indelible memory of our national pride and the struggle for independence. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that Mahatma Gandhi initiated the Dandi Satyagraha on this day, which further intensified the desire for freedom within every age and class. Mr. Shah added that this was a step taken towards Swadeshi that changed the direction of the independence movement.
