To encourage young orchardists and strengthen the horticulture sector, the Jammu and Kashmir Horticulture Department has started cultivating high-value, colored, and high-breed late varieties of fruit plants at the Horticulture Nursery, Nagari, to establish a mother block and distribute quality plants to farmers.
The latest fruit varieties being cultivated include pink guava, red mango, harad, and jamun, which have high market value and early production potential. These varieties are expected to benefit farmers due to their increasing demand in the market.
Chief Horticulture Officer of Kathua, Ashwani Sharma, stated that the mother block of these high-value fruit plants has been developed after the plantation of selected mother plants. He added that these plants will be distributed among young orchardists to further boost the horticulture sector.
