The HPV vaccination campaign was launched at the Sub District Hospital in Kupwara to prevent cervical cancer among adolescent girls across the district.

February 28, Srinagar: The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccination campaign was inaugurated on Tuesday at the Sub District Hospital in Kupwara by Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, marking a step towards preventing cervical cancer among adolescent girls in the district.

The program was attended by the chief medical officer of Kupwara, deputy chief medical officer of Kupwara, district immunization officer of Kupwara, medical superintendent of the Sub District Hospital in Kupwara, deputy chief education officer of Kupwara, and other senior health and district officials.

Speakers during the inauguration session highlighted the importance of HPV vaccination in preventing cervical cancer and other HPV-related diseases. They said that timely immunization of adolescent girls would help reduce future health risks and strengthen preventive health care in the district.

ASHA and Anganwadi workers attended the event in large numbers and participated in mobilizing eligible beneficiaries. Several beneficiaries were vaccinated during the inauguration ceremony.

The three-month campaign will continue across the district to ensure maximum outreach. Starting March 2, 2026, the vaccination drive will start at all block headquarters and will later be extended to all 38 cold chain points to ensure comprehensive coverage of eligible girls.

Officials said that the initiative aims to strengthen routine immunization services and protect adolescent girls against HPV infection in Kupwara district.
