Hyderabad, April 7 The Telangana Human Rights Commission on Tuesday directed the Hyderabad Commissioner of Police to ensure that no further harassment is caused to a woman who alleged physical assault, verbal abuse by Gandhi Nagar police over a suspected theft case, and to submit a report.

The HRC, presided over by its Chairperson Justice Shameem Akther, has taken cognizance of the complaint alleging police misconduct by personnel of the Gandhinagar Police Station, wherein the complainant alleged that she was physically assaulted, verbally abused in derogatory language, and threatened in connection with a suspected theft case, a TGHRC release said.

The HRC noted the seriousness of the allegations, including the circulation of her photograph, which affected her dignity, and her subsequent suicide attempt, it said.

"... the Commission recommended that the Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City, ensure that no further harassment is caused to the complainant and submit a detailed report, while also directing communication of the order to concerned police authorities," the release said.

The matter is posted for further consideration on April 30, it added.
