
Hyderabad, April 5 A 27-year-old woman here has accused her husband and his family members of rape, forced religious conversion, and financial exploitation, police said on Sunday.
In her complaint, the woman alleged that the accused initially approached her under the guise of renting her shop for a trading business. She claimed that he told her he had converted to Hinduism, changed his name to “Navadurga,” and expressed his intention to marry her, convincing her and her mother.
The woman alleged that he later took her to a resort in Moinabad under the pretext of introducing her to his family, where no one else was present.
She alleged that he offered her food and juice laced with sedatives, after which she lost consciousness and was sexually assaulted.
According to the complaint, the accused later showed her photographs taken during the incident and allegedly used them to coerce her into marriage.
She stated that she married him at the Sub-Registrar’s office in Kukatpally in July last year.
The woman alleged that after the marriage, she was subjected to repeated sexual and physical abuse by her husband and his family members.
She also claimed that the man’s brother and his associates sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.
She further alleged that she was forced to change her religion and was renamed “Nazeera,” though a police official from Begumpet Police Station said the claim has not yet been verified.
In addition, the woman alleged that she was forced to consume beef despite being a vegetarian and that the accused and his family took Rs 16.7 lakh from her on various occasions, besides availing loans in her name.
The woman stated that the accused later became untraceable, following which she approached the police.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered on charges of gang rape and other relevant sections of law, police said.
“The whereabouts of her husband are not known. Efforts are on to trace him,” the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.
