Hyderabad, March 11 The shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has severely impacted hotels in the city, with an estimated 25 to 30 per cent of establishments likely to close within a day, and another 75 per cent within two days, if the situation persists, industry representatives said on Wednesday.
The unavailability of commercial cylinders has forced hostels in the city's IT corridor to reduce their menus by eliminating items such as chapati, dosa, and puri, which require a significant amount of time or oil for preparation.
Hyderabad Hotels Association president Ashok Reddy said the shortage of commercial cylinders is severe, and some smaller hotels are trying to cope by using induction stoves and wood as fuel.
However, he said that these measures are not feasible for even 20 per cent of hotels, as many are located on upper floors of multi-story buildings.
He also mentioned instances of black marketing of cylinders.
"Hotel owners are worried about a situation similar to that of the COVID pandemic. They are concerned about how to feed their staff. During the COVID pandemic, at least gas was available. They cannot close the hotel and still have their staff," he told
