Hyderabad, March 2 A 24-year-old man was arrested for allegedly hitting a traffic police constable and continuing to drive with the constable clinging to the hood of the luxury car, police said. The man was reportedly driving in an "inebriated" state.
A video of the incident, which occurred on February 28, showed the constable clinging to the hood of the moving vehicle.
The man, who had driven the car with the constable on the hood for about one kilometer, was eventually apprehended by the public after some motorists blocked the vehicle's path and he was handed over to the Gachibowli police.
A blood alcohol content (BAC) test showed that the man's BAC was 160 mg/100 ml, which is above the permissible limit, police said.
The constable told a TV channel that he was on duty at a traffic junction when he received a call from the control room to intercept a car that had sped away after hitting another vehicle at Nanakramguda.
The constable further said that he signaled the car's driver to stop, and the driver slowed down.
"When I went to ask him to get out of the car, the driver suddenly accelerated and drove towards me. After being hit by the car, I fell onto the hood. He continued to drive the car in a zigzag manner while I was holding onto the hood. Some other vehicle riders who noticed me on the hood blocked the car," the constable said.
A case has been registered against the constable, and he was arrested on Sunday, police said.
