Hyderabad, April 3 The EAGLE force in Telangana on Friday said it raided a pub here and apprehended seven people for alleged consumption of narcotic drugs.
Based on credible information, during the night between March 2 and 3, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) raided the pub in Kondapur in coordination with the Gachibowli Police Station staff. Seven individuals were apprehended during the operation for allegedly consuming drugs, according to an official release.
Acting on information that the pub was hosting a special party with international DJ "Black Coffee," the EAGLE formed six teams to conduct a surprise raid.
The EAGLE said it initiated an operation to curb large-scale drug abuse occurring in pubs, hotels, and other public areas.
Prior to the raid, intelligence was gathered on attendees, and 64 individuals suspected of drug consumption were shortlisted. Without disrupting the ongoing event, the teams conducted a surprise check and identified five persons for testing.
Using urine drug test kits, four tested positive for ganja and benzodiazepine. Further testing revealed three more individuals positive for ganja and methamphetamine.
In total, seven people were confirmed to have consumed narcotic drugs illegally and were handed over to the police, the release said.
The individuals voluntarily "admitted" to drug abuse. Information about their networks was collected, and their parents/guardians will be contacted to ensure they undergo de-addiction programmes, with the hope that they have not developed severe dependency, it said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and further investigation is in progress, the release added.
