Idukki (Kerala), March 13 Two teenagers drowned in a river in Marayoor on Friday, officials said.
The deceased were identified as Sanjith Kumar, also known as Senthil (15), from GM Puram in Idukki, and Balamurughan (14), from Keezhanthur in the district.
Officials at the Munnar Fire and Rescue Service station said that three teenagers had reached the Kovilkadavu area around 4:30 pm.
Among them, Senthil and Balamurughan went into the river to take a bath.
However, they entered a deeper part of the river and drowned, officials said.
Hearing their friend's cries for help, local residents rushed to the spot and attempted a rescue.
Fire and Rescue Service personnel later arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies around 5:30 pm, officials said.
The Marayoor police have started an investigation into the incident.
The bodies were taken to a hospital in Munnar and will be handed over to relatives after the post-mortem on Saturday, police said.
