
Indore, March 30 The foundation stone for a 1-megawatt solar power plant was laid at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore campus on Monday.
Once operational, the plant will result in annual savings of approximately ₹75 lakh in electricity bills, according to an IIT Indore release.
"The foundation stone for the solar power plant was laid during a ceremony chaired by Dr K Sivan, chairperson of the Board of Governors of IIT Indore. The 1-megawatt solar plant is being set up on a 3.15-acre plot," it said.
Sivan, former head of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), also laid the foundation stone for a 63,840 square foot Kendriya Vidyalaya building on the IIT campus, and inaugurated a research complex covering 1,662 square feet, which includes 10 advanced laboratories, it added.
The complex, estimated to cost approximately ₹11.8 crore, will provide a conducive environment for high-level scientific research, the release said.
