JAMMU, April 8: Jammu & Kashmir has become the first Union Territory to receive approval from the Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) for establishing a Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at IIT Jammu.
Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo hailed it as a major step towards making J&K a hub for advanced technologies, alongside the proposed IT Parks in Jammu and Srinagar. The initiative aims to equip young people with AI skills, boost employability, and promote innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Centre, to be established at IIT Jammu with a ₹20 crore budget under a 90:10 funding model, will foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government. It will focus on AI-driven solutions in sectors such as governance, healthcare, agriculture, and disaster management.
Officials said the project will strengthen research, attract investments, support startups, and drive inclusive digital growth across the Union Territory.
