Chandigarh, April 8 – The Amritsar police announced on Wednesday that they had cracked a cross-border illegal arms smuggling operation, apprehending four individuals, including a minor, and seizing seven sophisticated pistols and 12 cartridges.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused were in contact with Pakistani-based smugglers through a social media platform and were facilitating the smuggling of illegal arms into India through the Attari sector, according to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.
The consignments were recovered from pre-designated locations and further supplied to local criminal networks across Punjab, Yadav said in a post on X.
An FIR has been registered at the Chheharta police station in Amritsar under relevant provisions of the Arms Act.
Further investigations are underway to establish forward and backward linkages and dismantle the entire smuggling network, Yadav said.
