Illegal Mining Near Tawi Bridge: FIR Registered.webp

Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary reiterated the government's strict zero-tolerance policy against illegal mining across Jammu and Kashmir, directing strict action against violators as well as negligent officials.

During an inspection of the riverbed near the 4th Bridge over the Tawi River, the Deputy Chief Minister took serious note of alleged mining activities being carried out in violation of established norms. He directed the Chief Engineer, PWD, to register a formal complaint and file an FIR to ensure stringent legal proceedings against those involved.

"Currently, all mining blocks are non-functional, and no extraction activity should be allowed. Any operation within this prohibited zone is illegal and will invite strict action," he stated, adding that mining is prohibited within 500 meters upstream or downstream of any bridge.

He further directed the Deputy Commissioner Jammu, SSP Jammu, and the District Mineral Officer to strictly enforce mining regulations, ensure the seizure of vehicles involved in illegal transportation, and impose penalties where required. He stated that no vehicle should transport mining material without valid documentation.

Expressing concern over enforcement lapses, the Deputy Chief Minister warned that accountability would be fixed. He also reviewed the progress of work at the 4th Bridge and called for expediting construction to ensure timely completion.
