
Mangaluru (Karnataka), March 18 The city police have seized 205 kg of meat and rescued nine cattle during a raid on an alleged illegal slaughter unit here on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Panambur Police Station conducted a raid on a shed near the Phalguni river and found a group engaged in the unlawful slaughter of cattle, officials said.
Nine cattle allegedly kept for slaughter and the equipment used in the process were recovered from the spot.
Three accused, identified as Kabir alias Pettha Kabir of Kasba Bengre and Badru alias Badruddin of Jokatte, along with others, fled the scene.
Efforts are on to trace them, a senior police officer said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Investigation is underway, police said.
