The National Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (NACMPA) organized a National Workshop on the Settlement and Digitization of Forest Boundaries in New Delhi yesterday. It brought together senior officials from the Union Government, State governments, and Union Territories to develop a clear course of action for accelerating the digitization of forest boundaries using GIS.
This initiative will enable the accurate identification of all forest lands, regardless of their legal status, and strengthen the monitoring of forest diversion and compensatory afforestation sites. It will also protect customary and statutory rights and ensure compliance with Supreme Court mandates and national forest policy, thereby reinforcing transparency, accountability, and intergenerational equity in India's forest governance.
