India Advocates Equity in WTO Discussions.webp

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, has stated that discussions at the World Trade Organization (WTO) must address the imbalance created during the Uruguay Round. He emphasized that all member countries should have a fair opportunity to build productive capacity, create jobs, and participate in global trade.

The minister added that the multilateral trading system should ensure that innovation, development, and opportunities are shared equally among members. He also reaffirmed India's commitment to constructive engagement so that the WTO continues to play a central role in global trade.

Goyal, who is attending the 14th Ministerial Conference in Cameroon, also met with several world leaders on the sidelines of the event, including US Trade Representative, Jamieson Greer. Mr. Goyal met with Canada's Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, and reviewed progress on the newly launched India-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) negotiations, and explored ways to further strengthen our bilateral trade and economic cooperation.
