
The 7th round of consultations between India and Algeria, held in Algiers on March 29th, was co-chaired by Dr. Neena Malhotra, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, and Lounes Magramane, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Algeria. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the ongoing cooperation and emphasized the importance of sustained high-level engagement. The two countries agreed to strengthen parliamentary cooperation, with Algeria welcoming the formation of the India-Algeria Parliamentary Friendship Group in the Indian Parliament. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat the threat of terrorism in all its forms. India also appreciated the warm reception extended to the All-Party Parliamentary delegation visiting Algeria after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The MEA informed that the consultations noted the steady growth in bilateral trade, currently valued at around $1.7 billion, and highlighted the potential for expansion in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, higher education, energy, mining, fertilizers, and agriculture. Both sides also exchanged views on regional and global issues and reiterated their commitment to close coordination at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms.
