
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman met with the new President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Zou Jiayi, in New Delhi today. During the meeting, both sides discussed strengthening the partnership between India and AIIB. In a social media post, the Ministry of Finance stated that they also discussed the importance of enhanced collaboration with AIIB through early upstream services in the infrastructure sector in India.
During the meeting, Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized the need to increase investments in AIIB member countries, particularly low-income countries, through various innovative financing and non-financing instruments. Mrs. Sitharaman also highlighted the country's continued focus on infrastructure-led growth under the 2026 Union Budget. She also stressed AIIB's role in developing capital markets, expediting the approval of projects in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, and establishing a regional office in India, given the scale of AIIB's operations.
